Truck FAQs
How do you know which new Ram truck is right for you and your Kansas City home or business? Your truck experts at Heartland Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram offer these quick, frequently asked questions (FAQ) to help you match your next truck to your needs.
What is the towing and payload capacity of new trucks?
-

-
2024 Ram 2500: When equipped with the 6.7L Cummins turbo diesel and max trailer package, you can pull up to 20,000 pounds. Pack up to 4,000 pounds in the 8-foot bed paired with the 6.4L HEMI V8 engine.
-
2024 Ram 3500: Build your workhorse with the high-output turbo diesel and a combined gross vehicle weight of 45,000 pounds to hitch up a trailer weighing up to 37,090 pounds. Choose the 8-foot bed, regular cab, and the 14,000 gross vehicle weight rating to max out your payload to 7,680 pounds.
-
2024 Ram Chassis Cab: Depending on your upfit selections, the Ram 5500 Chassis Cab with a diesel engine can tow up to 35,150 pounds and fill the bed with 12,550 pounds.
-
2024 Jeep Gladiator: Bring along your toys for the weekend and take advantage of its maximum 7,000-pound towing capacity and the 1,250-pound payload.
What do GVWR and GCWR mean?
GVWR is the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating and is the weight of the truck, passengers, and your payload in the bed and cab. The Gross Combined Weight Rating is the maximum possible weight of your truck, the trailer, and any people and cargo that you are hauling. If you subtract the truck’s GVWR from the GCWR for the vehicle, you get the maximum tow rating.
Do I need a heavy-duty truck?
A heavy-duty truck like the Ram 2500, Ram 3500, and Ram Chassis Cab are built with a sturdier frame, stronger suspension, and more robust power systems designed to stand up to the demands of hauling heavier loads, plowing, working construction sites, and long shifts at the job site. For personal use, a heavy-duty truck is often the smart choice for pulling a fifth-wheel, boat, or gooseneck trailer.
Are there any hybrid or electrified trucks available from Ram?
The 2025 Ram 1500 REV will be released soon and is an all-electric truck with a 350-mile driving range and a maximum 14,000-pound towing capacity. Stay tuned for updates.
Which Ram truck is built for off-roading and remote work sites?
All Ram trucks can be configured with 4X4 capability. If you are big on exploring unpaved trails, look at the Rebel or the TRX trims. Are you exploring hiking trails and campsites? The Trail-rated Jeep Gladiator Rubicon or Mojave is ready to crawl over rocks with an open-air experience.
Is there a Ram built as a working truck?
The Ram Tradesman trim provides all the muscle needed with the vinyl flooring and bench seating ready to get dirty during your work day.
Which bed size is right for hauling building supplies?
If you are hauling full sheets of drywall and plywood on a regular basis, the Ram 2500 and Ram 3500 are available with an 8-foot bed. The Ram 1500 features a 6-foot, 4-inch, or 5-foot 7-inch bed that can accommodate a 4-foot X 8-foot sheet with the tail down and the addition of a MOPAR bed extender accessory.
